Always make sure you have the many required equipments at hand reach before you begin. • Draining the Old Oil The first step is to drain out the old oil from inside the engine. At the bottom of the engine there is a big blot which needs to be opened to drain out the old oil. Make sure you place an old container beneath it so that the many old oil drains into the container. Wait till each of the old oil drains out and then replace the blot into the bottom of the engine. This may take some time but be patient. There are places where they recycle old oil. If you know of such a place, it is always better to give it there as disposing used old oil may be difficult and unsafe. Most of the service gas stations may recycle used old engine oil. • Remove the Old Oil Filter Next using an old filter wrench, turn the filter counter clockwise to remove it. You have to be careful as it is full of the old oil that may fall off. Depending on the model of the car, some filters can be accessed from the front, but most of the car engines have their filter accessed from under the car. • Attach the new old filter Before you install the new oil filter, grease the rubber gasket on the end of the filter with some new oil. Then fill the new oil filter to about 2/3 new oil. If you add more you may spill a bit when you screw up the cap. As the new filter has oil in it carefully screw it clockwise into place. You can screw it using your hand. If you use a wrench you may over tight it which may strip its threads and cause a leak. Similarly, the screws should also not be loose as it may cause a leak too. So just tighten it till your hands can turn it no more. • Fill the new oil Next, you can open the oil fill cap and pour in the oil using a funnel to avoid any spills. Find out from your owner’s manual how much oil your engine holds. Fill in the required amount of oil. Then you should check the oil to know the oil level. If you think it is less than the required amount then you'll want to add more until you are satisfied with the oil level. Make sure you close the filter with the oil cap. This is very important as we may forget to do that and the result will be disastrous. Spare enough time to do the oil change as it has to be done slowly and carefully.
